I wonder what would have happened if you didn't buy the extended warranty and were out of the 1 year warranty offered from the manufacturer?
I think you probably made a wise choice in the extended warranty. That way you are all set one way or another.
For the most part it seems that many items sold are designed with planned obsolescence in mind.
